Founded in 1985, Kularts is the premier presenter of contemporary and tribal Pilipino arts in the United States. Through our three decades of service, Kularts has grown into a leading elder arts organization uniting generations of artists and community activists in a common effort to build a collective space and sense of belonging within our city. Kularts creates work that makes visible the contributions of Pilipino Americans and creates room for cultural continuity and knowledge. Kularts work is not just art. This senior leadership position is an instrumental member in the day-to-day management, business operations and financial management of one of the region’s elder and the most vibrant Pilipino American multidisciplinary arts organization. The Managing Director’s primary focus is administrative and financial management and reports to the Executive Director.

The Managing Director position calls for an effective relationship builder, with existing ties to a broad and diverse range of communities. The Managing Director needs to communicate effectively with multiple constituents including those working in the arts, city government and development. This person should be entrepreneurial, flexible and a resourceful problem solver with the able to work collaboratively with others. We are seeking an individual who is motivated, resourceful, detail-oriented and creative.



Financial Management:

  • Manage Kularts’ annual $175-200K budget, includes funding sources from federal and foundation grants, donors and income from events.
  • Develop annual budget based on available resources, establish budget categories, and oversee allocation of expenses among accounts and in compliance with endowment and grant authorizations.
  • Initiate and authorize fees collection process for services (workshops, technical support contracts).
  • Respond to bills and other financial contracts in a timely matter.
  • Provide regular, timely and accurate financial information including monthly expenditure statements, forecasts and proactive financial planning guidance to ED and BOD.
  • Monitor and reconcile expenditures, and oversee preparation of interim and final financial reports for donors and grants, understanding and meeting the reporting requirements of each grant.
  • Respond to requests for financial information including preparation of journals and adjustments in a timely manner and in accordance with all relevant policies.
  • Produce reports on general funds and others as needed including budgets for all grants proposals and reporting
  • Oversee contracted bookkeeper to process all bookkeeping transactions, (A/R and A/P, bank and payroll reconciliation, etc.), prepare and present quarterly financial reports (profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow) to ED and Board of Directors; and oversee completion of timely annual filing of federal, state, county and city tax forms and applications.
  • Establish and maintain accuracy, integrity and credibility of financial system and procedures.

Administrative & Business Operations:

  • Manage organizational operations including maintaining operating procedures and policies, office supplies, equipment and key vendor relationships;
  • Maintain Organization’s archival and administrative files
  • Manage part-time office staff and interns, ensure that staffing duties and responsibilities are in line with programmatic and staff needs.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of administrative positions in supporting the goals and mission of Kularts as well as the employees in these positions.
  • Manage risk, evaluate and maintain appropriate policies and insurance
  • Manage and administer payroll, employee benefits and organizational insurance.
  • Provide guidance, support and training opportunities, and serve as mentor/advocate to administrative staff


Fundraising & Development:

  • Work with ED, grant writer consultant and program staff to develop, generate and manage grant applications.
  • Manage research and identification of new funding prospects (government, corporation, foundations, individuals)
  • Maintain relationships with current funders including (MOHCD, CAC, SFAC, GFTA,Gerbode)
  • Cultivate and Maintain Donor / Funder Relations.
  • Grant Administration- produce reports and invoices.


Programming, Visioning and Leadership:

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, work to develop and achieve overarching organizational goals in line with the strategic plan.



  • At least 3-5 years of related management and supervisory experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Business, or other related fields or equivalent experience
  • Solid financial planning, administrative management and development experience.
  • Knowledgeable in accounting practices and experience with financial database, especially Quickbooks
  • Proven ability to set priorities to manage and complete responsibilities in a timely manner, includes meeting multiple deadlines and the need to balance differing priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel; graphic design knowledge is a plus.
  • Event planning and fundraising experience highly preferred and desired
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity and ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility in schedule as required – including weekends/evenings 
  • Ability to inspire participation in others
  • Familiarity with Pilipino American communities, their history, and their concerns
  • Interest in the arts
