Artist Cece Carpio will be at the Art Pavilion Saturday, August 10!

Visit the Art Pavilion and be among the first to view these colorful new murals celebrating  the Pilipino core value of  ‘bayanihan’  or working together, and the valuable work done by organizations in the Bayanihan Community Center. Cece Carpio has led a community effort to create these murals, which will be prominently placed in the front window and the community meeting room at the Bayanihan Community Center.

The murals are part of  Kularts  Making Visible Project Initiative  focused on creating large-scale public artworks and participatory public arts events that provide a connection to our own sense of history and cultural pride, and gives visual presence to our community, both to ourselves and to the general population. By involving a population that is multi-generational and of mixed immigration status in the development of the art work, we strive to positively give voice to the issues that affect our lives, visually engage in our own history, and address the political and social goals of our neighborhood.

Commissioned by Kularts, the Bayanihan Community Center Mural is a 2012-13 component of Kularts’ Making Visible Project Initiative  in partnership with the Filipino American Development Foundation. This  project is made possible with funding from SFAC-Arts & Communities Innovative Partnerships, and The LIA Fund.
