It’s a fabulous day for SoMa, Pilipino & API arts!!

Kularts along with our friends from the South of Market Community Action Network (SOMCAN& Kearny Street Workshop (KSWhave been awarded 2016 Visual Arts Grants from the Creative Work Fund!

Grants are extremely competitive, with just eight 2016 CWF visual arts projects awarded we’re so proud that all three SoMa-based projects were funded!

Congratulations to all the community organizations, staff & artists involved!!

Here’s just a brief description of all of our projects via Creative Work Fund:

Illustrator Don Aguillo, illustrator/writer Raf Salazar, and KulArts are collaborating to create Pinoy Superheroes Here and Now!, spotlighting untold stories of everyday Pilipino heroes who live or work in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. Aguillo and Salazar will create a graphic novel-style episodic comic book that will be available in print and online, as well as six posters based on the comic book.

Jerome Reyes and SOMCAN are collaborating on a multi-platform political campaign that generates and circulates artwork throughout the neighborhood.

Weston Teruya and Kimberle Arteche are partnering with KSW to create Means of Exchange, engaging with small businesses in San Francisco’s rapidly changing South of Market district to co-create art products and pop-up businesses.
